Over 88,000 outbound tourists registered in first quarter

Around 88,196 outbound tourists were registered in the first quarter of 2022, the National Statistics Office said, spending a total of 654,094 nights abroad.

During the first quarter of this year, a total of 42,035 outbound tourist trips were undertaken for holiday purposes, followed by 28,498 trips for visiting friends and relatives.

Most outbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44 years (54.6%), followed by those within the 45-64 age bracket (24.9%).

Italy remained the most popular destination, with a share of 36.7% of total tourist trips.

The largest share of guest nights (60.6%) was spent in non-rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total outbound tourists stood at 7.4 nights. Total expenditure by outbound tourists between January and March reached €69.0 million, equivalent to an average of €782 per person.
